Make Reservations Now For Soapstone Prairie Natural Area Tours
Full Description:
The City of Fort Collins is once again offering informational, guided tours of the City's newest regional natural area, Soapstone Prairie. Encompassing 30 square miles of prairie grasslands, Soapstone Prairie and Larimer County’s adjacent Red Mountain Open Space are essential pieces of the Laramie Foothills Mountains to Plains Project, a joint effort by multiple partners to conserve a corridor of nearly 200,000 acres from the plains to the mountains.
The City’s Natural Areas Program is providing guided public tours of Soapstone Prairie on a regular basis until the scheduled opening of the property in 2009. More than 60 tours are planned for this year, and all tours will include information about the management plan as well as an opportunity to offer feedback. These tours are free and open to adults 18 or older, and participants on most tours will be transported to the site in City vehicles. Reservations are required, and space is limited for each tour. In the interest of safety, all tours are subject to last minute cancellation because of weather and road conditions.
